Latest dropping - Can't even run a sex-shop

Vlad's vanyka says: is still bollocks about bottoms ok you still send kickback and no welsh on me or still definitely get one-stop visit for friendly cup of tea and cosy chat can't refuse up to you ...

and er by the way (attention BO) anyone who follows the financial markets would have had to be lying face up in a moon-crater wanking at the Pole Star not to know that AIG was bailed out to protect counter-parties such as Goldman Sachs and Soc Gen from going similarly belly-up and equally for that matter (attention BB and that's not Boris) face down farting at Sirius not to know it's very very far from over - in three easy to understand steps we are 1 fucked 2 totally fucked 3 totally and completely fucked and it's time (memo G20) the US financial markets got regulated from here to clear across the universe and all the way back to make sure it never never happens again and the very least we can do for our children who are going to have to pay for all this for all the rest of their lives.

Amelia Gentleman 18 March 2009 - "A portrait of 21st-century poverty"

GutClean says: Britain has the highest level of child-poverty in Europe and it's not getting any better. It might not be Slum Dog in its awfulness but it is real and it is self fulfilling: as Louise in the piece says "We're all entitled to a good education, but the people whose parents don't have money, don't get it. You don't get a good education, so you don't get a job. It's all down to money."

Anyway Louise here's some decent nosh you can do on JSA and meanwhile we're gunning for you with all the passion we possess on the education scandal in Gnu Britain.

The Daily Mash 18 March 2009 - BROWN APOLOGISES FOR NOT BEING EVEN MORE INTELLIGENT

GutClean says: once again The Daily Mash gets right to the fucking bottom of it all as incidentally we also did with a recent Spectator competition poem that didn't win a prize just because it didn't rhyme or something pathetic like that like totally ignore Milton wankers.

Two thoughts on 'bishop' Williamson's Holocaust denial and his paedophilia

Graeme Paton 15 March 2009 - "Schools risk becoming Tesco-style identikits, warns teachers' leader"

GutClean says: Dr. Dunford, a teachers' union leader, is of the opinion that the National Curriculum is an extremely bad thing. Scarcely a deep or original thought and we have no quarrel with it because it is and it is directly responsible amongst other things both for our banking crisis and the disastrous indoctrination of a naive multiculturalism that has spawned and encouraged Muslim extremism.

Of more interest is his opining that 'many disillusioned bankers are turning to the classroom to rediscover their sense of "moral purpose"'.

That's not quite how we see it. Our guess is that in the first place they need the cash and in the second that the attraction is merely a tropism back towards the comforting cult of intellism nurtured in recent times by schools, and especially by independent schools, that has provoked the crisis in the first place.

We used to insist that teachers be of good moral character. Bankers of late on the other hand have been as excessively immoral as it is possible to be. We need bankers teaching our classes like we need 'bishop' Williamsons teaching them.

By the time the next election comes round most independent schools will have closed. Our vote will go to the political party that does the least to salvage them. Few things are more pressingly important to our children's future than that these schools be allowed to fail and to pass unlamented and ingloriously into history.

As for our curriculum that should be the exclusive concern of each school's governing body and not incidentally headteacher's or teachers' in general who rarely have the required depth of experience or intellect to make adequate judgements and decisions. As for the governing body that should be elected by the parents and should not include parents themselves because plainly that encourages nepotism.

It's time we got real about education.

Paul Johnson 25 February 2009 - "What the temptations on the high mountain mean today"

GutClean says: we share Paul Johnson's distrust of scientism and echo the stark warning he concludes his piece with

"That is the temptation we are now offered. Science in all its totalitarian dogmatism, or nothing. An exclusively materialist approach to life and living. Not merely an extrusion of the spiritual but a formal denial of the existence of God, and of anything which contradicts or simply just adds to what the current scientific establishment tells us. The temptation to bow before scientism is given an extra edge by the current deification of Darwin, who finds himself, poor fellow, in the role of the anti-Christ, with his natural selection as an alternative to Christianity. Some people might argue that the survival of the fittest is a sound principle. Indeed that was the principle underpinning Hitler’s race-theory and other manifestations of social Darwinism. I believe it will lead rapidly and inevitably to the self-destruction of the human race. The crisis in the world economy, and the great war it seems likely to promote, make all these issues highly topical."

But we don't consider 'moral relativism' to be the root cause of contemporary nihilism. Rather we blame its opposite, 'absolutism', for we have moved away from the absolutism of church to that of science.

We need to embrace both, to keep both our hearts and minds open so to speak, and rather in the spirit of what Jesus of Nasareth taught us at Matthew 22:21

“Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”.

But that Dawkins of Oxford had the wisdom and humility to offer the corresponding insight.

Martin Wolf 17 Feb 2009 - "The long road to ruin"

GutClean says: Martin Wolf is the Economics Editor of The Financial Times. In this webcast he succinctly sets out the history and causes of the current global financial crisis, one which is very far from being a mere panic over a collapsed bubble in the housing market. You might like to listen to his webcast with this chart of the Dow since 1930 open in another tab. Notice that for the 50 years from 1930 to 1980 the Dow was a pretty boring place to be and that it's quite plausible to predict the Dow could easily return to levels reached somewhere around 1990 - 1995 or even before.

Our view on the banking crisis (as well as an appeal to keep faith with our traditions) can be found here.

Edmund Conway 25 February 2009 - "Recession is grim no matter how bored we are of economic doom and gloom"

GutClean says: Edmund Conway is Economics Editor of The Daily Telegraph and has been consistently clear-sighted about the economic crisis since the start of the credit crunch. In this piece he reminds us that it won't get better until it gets worse but it will eventually get better. He runs a valuable blog at the DT.

Ambrose Evans-Pritchard 2 March 2009 - "We need shock and awe policies to halt depression"

GutClean says: Ambrose Evans-Pritchard is International Business Editor at The Daily Telegraph. In this piece he urges the US Fed finally to get the printing presses running and start helicopter drops of cash. Vilified as a doom-saying Cassandra by many he has neverthless charted this catastrophe with acute precision over the past two years that we've been reading him. He is extremely well read in history by the way and puts this to good use in his pieces. His DT blog is here.

Blog for Amnesty
- Protect the Human

GutClean says: the recent Amnesty report on the Gaza offensive calling for an arms embargo on Israel entirely begs the question on whether Israel directly targeted civilian populations or not and must therefore be considered fundamentally flawed. See our comment in Mel's recent blog.

(By popular request the return of QBragSolo - a brute force solution to the optimal 3 by 3 poker square. Unzip the file into a folder and look for ReadMeFirst.txt and QBragSolo.exe with a goblet of fire icon. Looking at it again I see that despite providing a very lucid Help file I'm still pleased with I forgot to indicate how to actually play the thing: click on Deal and a card will appear - click on square in the grid to put it there. Sorry, haven't a clue now what the rest of it does. 5 by 5 case still toasting ... Incidentally I'm no longer living in Weymouth)

Welcome to GutClean, home to probably the most visceral Gutenberg and electronic texts formatting Windows utility to be found anywhere on the web.

GutClean lets you read Gutenberg etexts and similar etexts directly in your electronic reader without having to download them first from commercial providers, many of whom charge for their files. For example one provider charges $20 for Gibbons' 'Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' whereas you can do it for free in seconds using GutClean. Moreover you can access the entire Gutenberg collection rather than just the small fraction of it that has attracted the attention of commercial providers. Finally by using GutClean you are not supporting these providers who are essentially stealing the hard work of the Gutenberg Project volunteers when they reformat and redistribute their files (and by no means always for free).

You can download GutClean (version 1.1 - a slight improvement on the original) here but please read the 'Viruses and malware' page on the site first before running the program since you will have to trust me on its content and you should be aware at least of the implications.

GutClean is genuinely free, open source and free to distribute (but not for commercial gain including support scams).

If you would like to distribute GutClean on your web-site please do so and let me know the link if you're prepared to let me link you on these pages.
