(By popular request the return of QBragSolo - a brute force solution to the optimal 3 by 3 poker square. Unzip the file into a folder and look for ReadMeFirst.txt and QBragSolo.exe with a goblet of fire icon. Looking at it again I see that despite providing a very lucid Help file I'm still pleased with I forgot to indicate how to actually play the thing: click on Deal and a card will appear - click on square in the grid to put it there. Sorry, haven't a clue now what the rest of it does. 5 by 5 case still toasting ... Incidentally I'm no longer living in Weymouth)
Welcome to GutClean, home to probably the most visceral Gutenberg and electronic texts formatting Windows utility to be found anywhere on the web.
GutClean lets you read Gutenberg etexts and similar etexts directly in your electronic reader without having to download them first from commercial providers, many of whom charge for their files. For example one provider charges $20 for Gibbons' 'Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' whereas you can do it for free in seconds using GutClean. Moreover you can access the entire Gutenberg collection rather than just the small fraction of it that has attracted the attention of commercial providers. Finally by using GutClean you are not supporting these providers who are essentially stealing the hard work of the Gutenberg Project volunteers when they reformat and redistribute their files (and by no means always for free).
You can download GutClean (version 1.1 - a slight improvement on the original) here but please read the 'Viruses and malware' page on the site first before running the program since you will have to trust me on its content and you should be aware at least of the implications.
GutClean is genuinely free, open source and free to distribute (but not for commercial gain including support scams).
If you would like to distribute GutClean on your web-site please do so and let me know the link if you're prepared to let me link you on these pages.
Literate consewers of the site will notice that most of our madness-of-2008 blogging has been cut. In fact we've been away hunter-gathering for a while (well every little bit counts) and the urge to sound off at the click of a mouse has dissipated somewhat. For what it's worth we are sceptical about the global economic recovery. Our own estimate is that we're only about a third of the way through the pain and the remaining two thirds of it is not likely to be funded so lightly again by long-suffering taxpayers.
